Shaping Houston's Future

As a brand-new Houstonian, you are part of a very special legacy established by the Allen brothers when they built this great city on the bayou nearly 170 years ago. A legacy that comes with the power to shape Houston's future! No one knows better than Houstonians that with vision, hard work and the right attitude anything is possible. And today, Houston's business leaders, regional allies and stakeholders are joining forces in an ambitious, multi-tiered approach to regional economic prosperity.

The Region's North Star
In January 2006, the Greater Houston Partnership, Houston's primary business advocate dedicated to building regional economic prosperity, unveiled a unanimously Board-approved Strategic Plan. Dubbed the new "North Star," the plan guides regional initiatives by building on Houston's core strengths and national centers of excellence (aerospace, alternative energy, biotechnology, education, energy, entrepreneurial enterprises, health care, information technology and petrochemicals); creating jobs and investment opportunities; and emphasizing the region as a powerhouse for business and quality of place. The goal? The creation of 600,000 total new jobs and $60 billion in capital investment over the next decade and to take our rightful place on the global stage as a world-class, international region.

A New Opportunity
Central to the region's economic growth is the creation of Opportunity Houston, a unique fundraising campaign to be led by Houston Astros' owner Drayton McLane. Opportunity Houston will work with regional stakeholders to raise approximately $30 million to help market and brand the Houston region to the nation and the world.

While $30 million might seem too large a sum to raise, the Partnership and its allies are committed to reaching that goal by focusing on the region's strengths and talents and by sharing the message that in Houston, anything is possible.

And we welcome your support!

Speaking Out
The Partnership is calling on its Members and the regional community to help spread the message that through regional involvement and ideas, we can achieve these ambitious goals.

The Strategic Plan Speakers Bureau is a group of Member volunteers who speak to community, trade, civic and business associations about the dynamics of Houston's new "North Star" for the next decade. These energetic speakers are an integral part of helping spread the Strategic Plan's visions, making them realities for Houston's future.

If you are actively involved with a civic, trade or business organization that you believe should play a role in shaping Houston's future, give us a call. The Partnership offers a host of speakers and other resources to help get the message out.

For more information about the Strategic Plan Speakers Bureau, please contact the Partnership's Communications Department at 713-844-3663.
